I know it's a little late in the game, but Private deserves a good mention. Private is the story of Reed Brennan, a girl from Pennsylvania with a pain killer using mother and no life. Suddenly, everything changes when she recieves a scholarship to the elite Easton academy, home of the rich and privileged. Everything seems perfect - until she sees the Billings Girls. The most exclusive dorm with the smartest, most beautiful, most feared girls on campus. Most prominent of them are Taylor, the scholar, Ariana, the good girl, Kiran, the model, and Noelle, their leader. Reed suddenly knows where she belongs, and it's not where she's dorming now.You can pretty much tell by the time you're halfway through Private that it's the first in a series. As other reviewers have commented, it doesn't have a complete story arc. It wouldn't stand well on its own: It barely tips the scale at two hundred pages, there's next to no character development in any of the four main Billings Girls, and it leaves you with a cliff-hanger ending... one I kind of saw coming. However, this all makes me want to read the next book more. Sometimes, first books are so amazing that I get nervous before I read the second, worrying that it won't live up to my high expectations. Hoping to learn more in a sequel (and to see Ariana, Noelle, Kiran, and Taylor get more of a third dimension) is pretty much the only reason I'm going to read the sequel, Invitation Only.
Private could possibly be paired with such cliquey girl stories as The A-List and Gossip Girl, but it's not really like either. While they do share a few common threads, Private doesn't have the cover of glamour. Private is more focused on the air of suspense than the fact these girls have everything. It's more like Pretty Little Liars than A-List. It was quite a page turner, I give it that.
All in All: A good, short story for fans of Pretty Little Liars, The Lying Game, A-list, and Gossip Girl.

Private Private Book 1 Kate Brian Julian Peploe Books Reviews
I normally don't read stuff like this, but one of the girls in my church's youth group was reading it, and I wanted to get a better idea of what some of my kids were reading. I must say that it was hard to put down! Reed Brennan is a new sophomore student at the prestigious Easton Academy, and she is captivated when she meets the Billings girls, a group of confident, self-assured young women who wear fancy clothes, carry stylish cellphones, and command respect from the rest of the student body.
Reed finds herself becoming obsessed with winning the acceptance of the girls, and unfortunately, she is willing to prostitute herself to doing anything to get their approval (well, almost anything).
In the meantime, she is struggling to keep up academically, as the school is much more rigorous than the public school from which she came.
From a Christian perspective, I am disappointed that there really aren't any characters of high moral fiber in the novel. You will look in vain to find someone who you would want your kids to admire.
But the story is written in an engaging style, and you will get lost in the storyline for a few hours. You will also encounter an occasional four letter word here and there, which may be normal for a young adult book, but it came as something of a shock to me because I am not really well versed in this kind of literature.
But I thought it was a great story, and you will be pining away for the next volume in the series, slated to be released in November 2006.

The story left me wondering what was going on. Not sure what was going to happen next. I have to read the next book to fine out.
an okay read
Okay
I kind of enjoyed this. The MC is not exactly lovable. She's weak in most situations and the romance, not bad but a bit rushed and yeah. I think I will have to read the next book to get a better view on the story and where it's headed.
I wasn't expecting to be hooked on this series, and I am.At first i had this love hate relationship with this book. There were quite a few things that I didn’t like. For example, throughout almost the whole story Noelle calls Reed “glass-licker”, and it rubbed me the wrong way. I also disliked how Reed would do anything they asked and barely bat an eye about it. I finished it in one day then of course had to buy the next book in the series.
I picked this book up on a whim. After all, it was a free download, so what did I have to lose? I'm very glad I did and will likely pick up the next book in the series soon.
Reed Brennan is a likeable character. She's conflicted and she doesn't always make the smart choices, but she's honest. The book was clearly written with the intent to continue the story and further flesh out the characters, and the author does well leaving you wanting more.
One note - the version is riddled with typos. Words will have a space in the middle of them, and there are a number of wrong letters. While I can't complain too much because the book was free, I hope that the rest of the books are better formatted.
