I wanted to like this book, really I did. The plot synopsis was intriguing, and the setting had a lot of promise. Unfortunately, with that statement, I've run out of positive comments about the book. The writing was immature, and characterization was erratic at best. An editor might have helped, for example, by preventing the repeated use of "in tact" for "intact", though I did laugh at a statement about the heroine's virtue remaining in tact! Verb tenses wandered around in time, sometimes within a single sentence. The dialog was stilted, to put it mildly. Motivations were obscure or absurd, by turns. The sex scenes were thrown in at random. There was a good story in there somewhere, but it was buried in poor writing and fuzzy plotting.

Nice plot. A bit slow at times but overall a good read.
Nice steam punk story without too much jargon.
Have really enjoyed reading C. J. Archer's books.
Not too deep of a book, easy to read. Kept my interest enough to read the entire series. Of course I like paranormal type books.
I was expecting something totally different when I purchased this book. I should have purchased a sample first! Live and learn!
I never thought I would like a historical PARANORMAL romance, but now I find myself wanting to read more of them after this book!
I'm totally in after a few paragraphs, cannot put it down, completely engrossed and sad when it ended. I want more of Matilda , Jack and the rest of these well thought out characters and superbly written story. Thank you you again C.J. Archer.
I've never read a "Steampunk" novel before and wasn't really sure what to expect. This new author has really caught my interest. She develops her characters - and they are certainly characters - very well.paranormal historical and romance al rolled into one. I'll be reading more of her books.
